35H Going Deeper Course

Yoga Room Waterloo - Spring 2024

Deepen your practice of yoga in a more personalized, tailored and intensive setting.

What to expect ?

This course focuses strongly on the development of your personal asana practice in a small group spread over five weekends across three months. Sections on functional anatomy, philosophy, pranayama, and meditation will serve to bring you greater awareness of how you approach your practice.

In the guided asana practices, you will be encouraged to work to your own level. As we begin to develop individual goals, you will be given structured time on the mat to explore postures. The asana practices will consist of hatha, vinyasa, yin and restorative yoga.

The introduction to anatomy and posture breakdowns of key poses will give you a practical understanding of your own body in yoga postures and the agency to experiment with alignment variations and ask questions.

You will learn and discuss a selection of philosophic principles including the eight limbs of yoga and explore how they could apply to your practice and beyond. You will be given individual assignments that resonate with your personal interests and goals.

Each Saturday session includes a two-hour asana practice, including pranayama and meditation. Each Sunday session will include an extended asana practice, pranayama, meditation, breakdowns of key yoga postures, and sessions on anatomy or philosophy. Over the duration of the course, you will develop a broader knowledge of yoga and a deeper understanding of your own practice.

Some yoga experience is recommended. Although this course is not a teacher training, it could serve to clarify for students whether a full 200H TTC is right for them.

values

In my yoga classes, there are three key principles I want to transmit to my students. The first is to create a well-paced class for students to have both space and time to breathe fully throughout the duration of the practice. The second is to work towards a sense of balance. I aim to create yoga sequences that are well-rounded, encourage an even distribution of effort and sensation in poses, and promote an equilibrium between body and mind. A balanced yoga practice is a sustainable practice. The third key principle is to allow students to develop an awareness of the physical intelligence of their own bodies, building strength, flexibility and confidence.

about

I grew up in Monterey, on the central coast of California, and moved across the country to Massachusetts where I graduated from Williams College with a degree in Studio Art and Biology. I was in my early twenties when I first tried yoga. My yoga journey started in 2001 at an artist residency in Cyprus where a friend taught me a few sun salutations between sessions in the art studio. From then on, I continued to cultivate my yoga practice, taking classes and attending workshops in parallel to my art career. I completed both a Masters in Art in Madrid, as well as a Masters in Fine Arts from Transart Institute (Berlin/New York). In 2015 I received my 200HR Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Certification from Yoga Moves in Utrecht. After becoming a full-time yoga teacher, I completed Jason Crandell’s 300HR Advanced Teacher Training at Triyoga in London. As someone who is naturally curious and loves self-inquiry, I hone my yoga teaching skills regularly through continued professional development. I live in Belgium where I teach foundations, hatha, flow, yin and restorative yoga. I regularly teach workshops and masterclasses and have co-taught 200HR yoga teacher trainings at Yoga Room.
